Foundation representative at Lake Whitney.

Hello,

Ken Dog here to tell everyone about my trip to Lake Whitney MX Park. I went to Texas representing the Brett Downey Safety Foundation with hopes of talking to as many people as possible about MX Safety, and boy did I do some talking! I met people from all over the United States as well as Canada and other parts of the globe. Almost everyone that I spoke to has at least heard of the Foundation, but still others are yet to discover the Foundation. They all know now, and support what we stand for. As far as the staff at Lake Whitney MX Park, they welcomed me with open arms and gave me VIP status with the run of the track. Tom Harring, the head ref, was really great. He and his crew of flaggers, stagers, and security staff were on top of everything, and totally in control of any and all situations that came up and handled them quickly and professionally. Lisa Pecsok and the girls in sign up's and scoring were also on top of everything with a smile and were very friendly to all who came out that week. I found Lake Whitney MX Park to be a very safe track with fencing to separate the track from the pits. Also, they had a staff on hand to groom and water the track. There were plenty of flaggers who were trained and strategically positioned all over the track next to numbered posts so that the spotter in the tower could help locate any down rider with full communication by way of radios, not to mention the many EMT's on hand with quads and other vehicles to quickly get to and take care of the injured riders. I was also overwhelmed at the response I got from the many influential people in the motocross industry. Many of them wanted to help with whatever they could, by either donations or contributing time to the cause. Some people wanted to help by spreading the word about safety through magazines and websites, or even coming up with new ideas about how to keep our riders, fans, and all participants as safe as possible. In closing- the Brett Downey Safety Foundation is working very hard to support the sport we love in keeping it as safe as we can and we will always continue to do so. I want to thank the entire crew at Lake Whitney for allowing me to attend on behalf of the Brett Downey Safety Foundation. "With the gas on and the choke off" we are on it.

Thanks again,
Ken Gilbert
