It’s important riders and parents understand the inherent risk in riding a dirtbike and riding on a motocross track. Riders should have a clear understanding of track rules and the flag system. Wearing the proper safety equipment and keeping your dirtbike maintained is important as well. Use the material below to help with your safety preparation.

  • Only exit track when safe
  • If you’re not jumping stay all the way to the left or right. Do not change lines on the face and/or landing of a jump.
  • Never stop on the track
  • If you crash, get off the track as quick as possible
  • Look ahead
  • Be alert and be smart

Green Flag

Indicates the start of the race.

White Flag

Indicates there is one lap to go until the finish.

Yellow Flag

Indicates danger on the track. Proceed with caution. No jumping or passing.

Red Flag

Indicates the stopping of a race for any emergency situation.

Black Flag

Indicates disqualification of a rider. Rider must exit track safely and report to the referee.

Red Cross Flag

Indicates emergency personnel are on the course. Proceed with extreme caution. No jumping or passing.

Blue W/Yellow Stripe Flag

Indicates you are about to be overtaken by faster riders. Hold your line and do not impede the passing riders’ progress.

Checkered Flag

1. Riders don’t look at the track for new obstacles or track direction.

2. Riders cutting the track and not knowing where to enter or exit track.

3. Not enough gas in tank or forget to turn the gas on.

4. Make sure the bike is warmed up and the choke is off.

5. Lack of Maintenance on bike: (Loose spokes, loose grips, loose bolts and tire pressure)
